OPD services and medical clinics of several government hospitals were crippled due the strike, this morning.

GMOA stated that its central working committee will meet on May 9 to look into the future cause of action. Its General Secretary Dr. Navinda Soyza expressed his views about the ongoing strike.

Two Teachers trade unions also supported the strike today.

However, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the strike today is a faliure.

Meanwhile, the guard of a Rambukkana bound train withdrew from duty and left the train when it stopped at the Dematagoda Station today.

An engine driver of a Batticaloa bound train from Colombo had followed suit when his train was stopped at the Maho Railway station.

However, the train control room stated that steps were taken to run both trains after a slight delay.

Several train frequencies had also been cancelled due to the strike.

Meanwhile, the Railway Station Masters Association who decided to join in the ongoing strike by this evening has given up the decision later after having discussions with the authorities.
