A clash had taken place between two groups of doctors during a conference held in Colombo regarding the SAITM crisis.
A spokesman confirmed that a doctor who had been assaulted during the clash had been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The conference themed "Let's end the SAITM crisis" had been organized at the Colombo Foundation Institute.
During cordial discussions in the last phase of the conference, an altercation had taken place between two groups of doctors.
Reports say that subsequently the altercation had developed into a brawl.
GMOA media spokesman Samantha Ananda said that a doctor had been hospitalized as a result of a cup of tea falling on the doctors head.
However a senior officer from Cinnamon Garden Police said that a statement had been obtained from the hospitalized doctor.
He claims that he had been injured due to an altercation.
The officer from Cinnamon Garden police said that the situation had been settled and that the hospitalized doctor had said that an investigation need not be carried out.
Meanwhile the strike launched by the GMOA in protest of the police assault on students who staged a demonstration against the Malabe private medical college continues today.
Participating at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday GMOA media spokesman, Dr. Samantha Ananda said that the decision had been taken after the central committee meeting.
